One step closer – to being far far away🙂
I live in Pretoria, South Africa and I am a part-time boat designer and builder. I prefer epoxy and fiberglass over marine ply, with carbon fibre and aramid / kevlar reinforcing. I am now building a 3m (10 foot) ocean going yacht.

Hallo Manie,
Dit is toeval, ons dink soortvan dieselfde oor ‘n paar dinge.
Ek bly ook in Centurion, en het lank gelede bote gebou vir ‘n lewe, onder andere ‘n ontwerp van Finot genaamd die South 35. Ons het ook ‘n 38, 43 en 47 gebou, almal vacuum-bagged epoksies, gekuur en met koolstof en kevlar strukturele komponente onder andere soos roere, kiele, maste, booms en boegspriete.
Ek speel rond met ontwerp in plywood, en daar staan ‘n 4×8 voet CNC router in my werkswinkel wat ek eintlik spesifiek gemaak het om bote mee te bou. My spesialiteit is saamgestelde materiale, ek werk hier in Lyttelton voltyds daarmee.

Dit smaak my ons almal wat ver van die see af is wil bote bou! Ek woon in Randburg. Ek kyk op die oomblik na die Roberto Barros ontwerpe. Dit lyk of sy planne vir dom, onhandige ouens soos ek is! Ek kyk veral na sy 28’Multichine. Wat dink jy daarvan? Miskien kan ek vir Dries vra om die bulkheads te sny met sy CNC router.
Waar kry mens die beste pryse op marine ply,epoxy en fiberglass?

Ek help vir SA Birdlife om ‘n “floating hide ” te ontwerp ( eks ‘n strukturele ingenieur en weet niks van bote af nie !! ) vir observasie en fotografie by die vlamink eilande ,Kamfersdam., KImberley.
Dis basies ‘n ‘huis’ op ‘n platform op half dromme , wat twee persone moet huisves en toerusting .
My probleem kom in om die ding aan te dryf.Dit moet baie stadig wees,en geruisloos ( elektriese motors ) en ook rudders he om te maneauver ( voorentoe ,agtertoe,sywaarts ).
Sal jy my kan raad gee oor die aandrywingsstelsel?
Enige hulp of raad sal waardeer word !

Sorry I don’t have proper plans, my drawings are very basic only intended for personal use. I basically did my own version of the Jarcat. There is lots of info on the internet, it’s a basic boat that you can easily copy and build yourself. I built those 2 hulls out of 9mm marine ply and it worked fantastically well. The man I built the hulls for never finished the boat, which is unfortunate. My method of building has proved itself and I am building the new TEN the same way. You can easily copy my design and build method,s there is plenty of info on the internet and Youtube. Here are some good links.
